Early man & Modern Man
EARLY MAN:
Who were teh ancestors of Human beings? Human beings? Have you ever thought? More than 10 Million Years ago, human beings emerged from ape-like creatures. Over the years, discoveries done by scientists have shown, that it took human beings millions of years to learn how to use tools, live and work together.
They learnt to build shelters for themselves. Remains of their buildings, pots and weapons etc. tell us much about their lives.
Early people hunted for their food. But some people on the North American coasts used to fish for food. Early people used wooden spears with stone blades. Tools and weapons were made by striking hard stones together to make sharp jagged edges. For shelter, these early people lived in tents made from branches and animals skins, or in caves. Primitive cave paintings have been discovered in France, that showed these early men used men used colours made from powdered rocks or plants for their paintings. The early men made these paintings perhaps as offerings to their gods, so that there would always be plenty of animals for their hunt. Somehow these people came to know that they could gather the seeds of some wild plants and plant them in fields.
Some grasses produced grains, that they could grind into villages close to their fields. They also tamed animals like cattle and pigs and kept them for their milk and meat. The first humans were name 'Homely Man' OR 'Homo Habilis'
Modern Man:
Mordern man belongs to the speices Homon Sapiens. they evolved in Africa. But before they came into existence, a sub-species of Homo Sapiens called Neanderthals were found between 100,000 and 35,000 years ago in Europe. They came from the middleEast to Europe. They were strongly built short people. They hunted woolly mammoths and rhinos. Thin tools and wepons were made with flint and bone. But modern Humans have different body size and shapes, depending on the environment and climate they live in. Neanderthals were short statured people. Cro-Magnon peoples were taller but not as tall as some Modern African peoples such as the Masai.
Neaderthals and Cro-Magnon's made rafts by strapping hides. They used these boats to fish from the middle of the rivers or lakes. Cro-Magnons produced delicate carvings and paintings and made clothes from animal hides, evidence of which have been discovered on excavation sites. The paintings made by them show that they had high artistic skills and exceptional power of observation.
About four million years ago, the first human like creatures were found in some areas of Africa and Asia. They were skilled tool makers and they cooked their food over fire.
